Shih, MD, MS, MPH is the Director of the Central Nervous System & Eye Services in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). Her work is divided between patient care of brain and eye tumor patients, research, and education. Her research interests are a mix of clinical and translational efforts to better define the role of radiation therapy in the management of brain tumors and other neurological conditions, ranging from benign to malignant, and both primary and metastatic diseases. One subspecialty interest is proton radiation therapy and improving our understanding and use of this technology. Dr. Shih is also interested in preserving quality of life and better understanding the effects of radiation on normal tissues, primarily the brain. A third area of interest is the effects of drug addictions on the brain and how our understanding of this can promote new opportunities to developing effective therapies. Dr. Shih is the Director of the Proton Therapy Fellowship at MGH and the Associate Director of the combined residency Harvard Radiation Oncology Program.
