Alan J. Wein MD, PhD(hon), FACS

Biographical Sketch:

Dr. Alan Wein received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He completed training in Surgery and Urology at the University of Pennsylvania, including a fellowship at the Harrison Department of Surgical Research. He was awarded an honorary PhD from the University of Patras, Greece, in September 2005. In 2007, he was named the Founders Professor in Urology, a professorship which was created in recognition of Dr. Wein’s many contributions in the field of urology. He was conferred the status of Honorary Professor of the Federal State Institute of Urology in May 2010. He was elected Senior Councilor of the American Association of Genitourinary Surgeons in 2021.

Dr. Wein has received numerous awards from various societies in urology, including the Distinguished Service Award and the Distinguished Contribution Award of the American Urological Association, the Urodynamics Society Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Edward L. Keyes Medal, among others. He holds or has held editorial board or associate editorial positions on 14 respected journals, has authored or co-authored over 1000 publications and has written, edited, or co-edited over 30 books on urology. He is Editor-in-Chief of the 9th, 10th, and 11th editions of Campbell-Walsh Urology and the name of the 12th, and succeeding editions, has been changed to Campbell-Walsh-Wein Urology to reflect his many contributions to the field.
