Access this abstract now Full Text Available for ClinicalKey SubscribersIn contrast with European guidelines to start colorectal cancer (CRC) screening at age 50, individuals in the Netherlands are invited biennially from age 55 to 75 for fecal immunochemical testing (FIT) using a positivity cut-off of 47 microgram Hemoglobin per gram feces (µg/g). Starting screening earlier may be cost-effective, but other extensions of the screening program may be even more efficient. We investigated the cost-effectiveness of different CRC screening strategies to identify the optimal extension of the program.
