Invasive Disease–Free Survival and Brain Metastasis Rates in Patients Treated With Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy With Trastuzumab and Pertuzumab
TAKE-HOME MESSAGE
- This study analyzed invasive disease–free survival (IDFS) and brain metastasis rates in patients with HER2+ early breast cancer treated with neoadjuvant systemic therapy from January 2019 to January 2022. A total of 594 patients were included, with a median follow-up duration of 24 months. Patients with residual disease (RD) had a higher incidence of IDFS events (5%) than those with pathological complete response (2%). Of note, 36% of patients with RD lost HER2+ status; however, the rate of IDFS events was comparable between HER2+ and HER2− RD groups.
- The findings highlight the need for more effective therapies in neoadjuvant and adjuvant settings to minimize brain metastasis risk.
