Yuichi J. Shimada MD, MPH
Associate Professor, Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine, Columbia University Irving Medical Center, New York, New YorkDr. Yuichi Shimada, MD, MPH, is the Research Director of the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Center and an Associate Professor of Medicine at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. He is also a faculty member for the Frontiers in Cardiovascular Discovery Workshop at Columbia University's Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Shimada earned his MD from The University of Tokyo in 2007, and during his medical training, he was selected for a prestigious exchange program at Johns Hopkins Hospital, which inspired him to pursue a career as a physician-scientist in the United States. After completing his Internal Medicine residency and chief residency at Beth Israel Medical Center and cardiology fellowship at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, he specialized in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy at Massachusetts General Hospital.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Shimada earned a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University and was inducted into the Delta Omega Alpha Public Health Honor Society. He has served as an attending cardiologist at Massachusetts General Hospital and joined Columbia University’s faculty in 2017. Dr. Shimada is an active researcher with ~100 peer-reviewed scientific publications, serving as an editorial board member for multiple scientific journals and reviewing for top journals such as Circulation and Annals of Internal Medicine. He has received multiple awards for his research and delivered over 100 invited lectures worldwide. Dr. Shimada is also involved in several international clinical trials and is a Board Member of the Japanese Medical Society of America, where he chairs the Scholarship Committee.
