Vijay Nambi MD, PhD

DeBakey Veterans Affairs Hospital; Associate Professor of Medicine and Program Director, Lipids and Atherosclerosis Fellowship, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TexasDr. Vijay Nambi’s clinical background includes training in Internal Medicine, Cardiology (with a focus on prevention and non-invasive cardiology) and Vascular Medicine with expertise in ultrasound based imaging, while his PhD was in clinical research.
After coming to the United States, Dr. Nambi completed his training in Internal Medicine with an Internship at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago in 1999 andthen completed his residency at Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio in 2002 where he also completed a fellowship in Vascular Medicine. Then, he completed a fellowship in Cardiovascular diseases at Baylor College of Medicine in 2006 after which he obtained a PhD in clinical research at Baylor College of Medicine.
He currently serves as the program director of the ‘Lipids and Atherosclerosis” fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine and is a staff cardiologist at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs hospital. Dr. Nambi has served several national societies in several capacities. He is locally and nationally known as an expert in lipidology and cardiovascular prevention.
His research interests are primarily in evaluating the use of imaging (ultrasound) and biomarkers in cardiovascular risk prediction and prevention. He has been very involved with the Atherosclerosis Risk In Communities (ARIC) study. He has ~230 publications and has been an invited speaker in several national conferences.
