Tine Willum Hansen MD, PhD
Senior Researcher, Steno Diabetes Center, Copenhagen, DenmarkDr. Hansen’s early research was centered on hypertension and risk stratification based on ambulatory blood pressure and arterial stiffness, having contributed significantly to this area, leading to seminal papers demonstrating the importance of ambulatory blood pressure assessment. In 2012, Dr. Hansen was appointed senior researcher at Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen, this provided the unique opportunity to combine advanced imaging and clinical research in a high-risk population.
In 2013, Dr. Hansen initiated a study evaluating the cardiac microcirculation measured by PET/CT imaging and cardiac autonomic function using MIBG imaging in persons with type 2 diabetes. In 2016, a similar study in persons with type 1 diabetes was initiated and together these two studies have contributed to a new knowledge of the cardiac microvascular function. Dr. Hansen was awarded the Ascending Investigator Grant - Endocrinology & Metabolism from the Novo Nordisk Foundation in 2019. The project is designed with the primary aim to identify subpopulations at high risk of developing cardiovascular disease among asymptomatic persons with type 2 diabetes using advanced imaging modalities.
