He is currently completing his doctoral studies in Health Services Research at the University of Toronto. He is a Co-Investigator with the Canadian Network for Autoimmune Liver disease (CaNAL), where he studies Primary Biliary Cholangitis with a focus on effectiveness of new therapies, prognostication, and associations between ethnicity and disease severity/quality of life. Surain graduated from the University of Chicago with an AB in Biological Sciences specializing in Endocrinology. He also serves as a freelance consultant providing support for statistical analyses, data processing, and randomised clinical trials. He aims to contribute to decision making in healthcare through data-driven evidence.
