Sompop Bencharit DDS, MS, PhD, FACP
Professor, Associate Dean for Innovation, and Chief Innovation Officer, Workman School of Dental Medicine, High Point University, High Point, North CarolinaDr. Sompop Bencharit is a distinguished professional in the field of dentistry. Dr. Bencharit is currently Professor, Associated Dean for Innovation, and Chief Innovation Officer at Workman School of Dental Medicine, High Point University. Dr. Bencharit was previously Professor and Assistant Dean for Innovation at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) College of Dental Medicine, and also the Founding Chair of the Department of Reconstructive and Rehabilitation Sciences. Dr. Bencharit had also previously served as the Founding Director of Digital Dentistry Technologies and Director of Clinical Research at the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).
Dr. Bencharit's educational background includes a DDS and Diploma in Prosthodontics from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. He furthered his studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), where he obtained a Certificate and Master's Degree in Prosthodontics, a PhD in Oral Biology, and a Certificate in Clinical Research. He is recognized as a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics and holds fellowship memberships in prestigious organizations such as the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP), the Pierre Fauchard Academy, and the International College of Dentists.
Dr. Bencharit was honored with the 2021 ACP Distinguished Researcher award. He has an extensive publication record, with over 100 peer-reviewed articles and more than 100 published abstracts. Dr. Bencharit serves in various editorial roles, including Associate Editor for the Journal of Prosthodontics, Academic Editor for PLoS ONE, Scientific Editorial Board Member for Scientific Reports, and Co-Chair for the American Academy of Implant Prosthodontics Implant Monograph. As an Editorial Contributor for the ADA/Elsevier PracticeUpdate Clinical Dentistry, he has written over 1000 take home messages. Additionally, he plays an active role in research groups and committees, serving as Director and Program Chair for the International Association for Dental Research/American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR/AADOCR)-Prosthodontic Research Group, as well as Research Committee Member for the ACP and American Academy of Osseointegration (AO).
