Siyan Cao (“Stewart”), MD, PhD, is an academic gastroenterologist and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. Dr. Cao was born in Chengdu in Southwestern China. He received a BS from Zhejiang University, a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Michigan, and an MD from Columbia University. Afterwards, he completed internal medicine residency at UCSF and gastroenterology fellowship at Washington University.

Dr. Cao’s research interests are in the basic and translational medicine in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), particularly mucosal immunity, cellular stress response, and biomarker discovery. He has been funded by the American Gastroenterological Association, Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, Doris Duke Foundation, and the NIH.
