Green attended medical school at University of Sydney, Australia. Gastroenterology fellowships were completed at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney and at the Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, where he was a research fellow at Harvard Medical School. He is currently the Phyllis and Ivan Seidenberg Professor of Medicine at Columbia University Medical Center in New York and the Director of the Celiac Disease Center. He has received the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) Foundation Mentors Research Scholar Award in 2007, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Master Endoscopist Award in 2007 and MASGE, 2020 , AGA Research Mentor Award in 2020 and Distinguished Clinician Award in Academic Practice from the AGA in 2021.
