Peter J. Gilling CNZM, MD, FRACS
Professor of Surgery, University of Auckland, Bay of Plenty Clinical Campus, Tauranga, New ZealandPeter Gilling is a Urologist with an international reputation for BPH research. He is currently Head of the Bay of Plenty District Health Board (BOPDHB) Clinical Campus in Tauranga, New Zealand and is a Professor of Surgery at the University of Auckland. He is also an Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences (FMHS) heading the Academic Site in Tauranga for the University of Auckland. Peter is a member of the Executive Management team of the Bay of Plenty District Health Board (DHB) and established and heads-up the Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) for the BoPDHB.
Peter is known for his pioneering work with Holmium Laser Prostatectomy for which he was awarded a Doctor of Medicine, by the University of Otago in 2010. He was awarded the RACS Surgical Research Award in 2015. He became a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit (CNZM) in 2016. Peter was elected to the American Association of Genitourinary Surgeons in 2010 as an International Member and is on the Editorial Boards of six specialty journals. Peter has published extensively and been a visiting surgeon at more than 50 institutions worldwide and is a regular part of the invited faculty at many major international meetings each year.
