Professor of Medicine, Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania; Associate Chief–Clinical Affairs, Cardiovascular Division of Medicine; Medical Director, Heart and Vascular Center, Penn Medicine, Philadelphia, PennsylvaniaDr. Mariell Jessup is Professor of Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, Associate Chief–Clinical Affairs, Cardiovascular Division of Medicine, and Medical Director of the Heart and Vascular Center at Penn Medicine in Philadelphia. She is Vice-Chair of the committee for the focused update of the ACC/AHA Guidelines for heart failure, the newest version of which published in June 2013. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the national AHA, and became the President of the AHA on July 1, 2013.
Dr. Jessup has also served as the Chairman of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Continuing Professional Development Congestive Heart Failure Practice Improvement Module Committee. She completed a 4-year term as an ABIM representative for the Residency Review Committee–Internal Medicine of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, and a 6-year term on the ABIM’s Cardiovascular Board. She has joined the Board of the Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant cardiology secondary subspecialty, and is currently the Chair.
Dr. Jessup received her medical degree from Hahnemann University School of Medicine, and completed residency at Hahnemann University Hospital and a cardiovascular fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
