Spence Endowed Chair in Neuro-Oncology and Associate Professor of Neurology at the University of Washington School of Medicine, where he is also Executive Co-Director of Clinical Neuro-Oncology at the Alvord Brain Tumor Center. He is Chief of the Division of Neuro-Oncology at the University of Washington Medical School Hospitals and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.
Dr. Mrugala received his medical degree from the University of Warsaw Medical School and his PhD in neurobiology from Copernicus University in Torun, Poland. He completed a neurology residency at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where he was chief resident. He also completed fellowships in neuro-oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital, and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, while concurrently earning an MPH at Harvard School of Public Health.
Dr. Mrugala is a board member of the Washington State Neurological Society and a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the Society for Neuro-Oncology, and the American Society of Clinical Oncologists, among other professional organizations. He is an expert in primary glial brain tumors, primary CNS lymphoma, and neurofibromatosis, with expertise in experimental therapeutics and the complications of treatments in neuro-oncology as well. He is widely published.
