Professor Beaugerie completed his medical degree at Tours University and his fellowship at the Saint-Antoine hospital. He has researched the mechanisms and regulation of intestinal transport of passively-absorbed monosaccharides, for which he obtained a PhD. He was also involved at this time in clinical research on intestinal complications of HIV-infection, Clostridium difficile diarrhea and colitis in immunocompetent adults, and drug-induced microscopic colitis.
He initiated and coordinated the French observational CESAME cohort, which aims to better understand and prevent all cancers related to IBD and/or to immunosuppressive treatments. With the Saint-Antoine tertiary care centre team, he is engaged in clinical research on natural history and complications of IBD. He is currently compiling data form this research and from efficacy and safety parameters of treatments to optimise management strategies for IBD.
