Associate Professor, Medicine, University of Colorado, School of Medicine, Denver, ColoradoDr. Larry Allen spends his clinical time as Associate Division Head for Clinical Affairs in Cardiology and Medical Director of Advanced Heart Failure at the University of Colorado. The other half of his time he does research with the Colorado Program for Patient Centered Decisions. Dr. Allen’s interests include improving our ability to anticipate progression into end-stage heart failure and then helping patients make tough choices regarding invasive therapies and palliative care options. Dr. Allen is currently the principal investigator for a PCORI-funded multicenter trial of decision support for patients and their caregivers offered a left ventricular assist device (the DECIDE-LVAD trial) as well as an American Heart Association Network Award investigating tools to increase patient engagement around heart failure medication prescribing (the EPIC-HF trial). Meanwhile, Dr. Allen keeps himself grounded by regularly seeing patients with heart failure, LVADs, and transplants, and is consistently voted as one of Denver’s “Top Doctors” in 5280 Magazine.
