Kaleb Tesfai is a 4th year undergraduate student at the University of California at San Diego, majoring in Public Health with a concentration in Medicine Sciences. Kaleb joined the MASLD Research center 3 years ago, and is a current member. He has the pleasure to be under the mentorship of Dr. Veeral Ajmera and Dr. Rohit Loomba, alongside other esteemed researchers at the center. Kaleb actively engages with numerous researchers in investigating the epidemiological factors associated with chronic liver disease, in addition to the effectiveness of non-invasive biomarkers for monitoring liver disease severity and progression. Kaleb is a past recipient of the American Gastroenterology Association Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (AGA SURF), in his research on the effect of social determinants of health, in conjunction with metabolic factors, on the risk of significant liver fibrosis in patients diagnosed with biopsy-proven MASLD. Kaleb is pursuing a career in medicine as a physician scientist, determined to provide clinical care to underserved populations, while also continuing to contribute to innovative research aimed to mitigate prevalence and severity of liver disease.
