Juan Simon Rico Mesa MD

Cardiology Fellow, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas

Dr. Rico Mesa is a Cardiology Fellow at Baylor College of Medicine. He completed his medical school training at Universidad CES in Medellin, Colombia, followed by a research fellowship in Advanced Cardiac Imaging at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, where he worked in strain analysis imaging. Subsequently, he completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Texas Health San Antonio. As an intern, he was recipient of the Outstanding Intern Award. As a senior resident, he was selected to participate in the “resident teaching track”, where he enhanced his teaching skills to early trainees. Most recently, he enrolled Baylor College of Medicine for his Cardiovascular Diseases Fellowship.

His academic interests include Interventional Cardiology and Critical Care Cardiology. Particularly, he is highly interested in Cardiogenic Shock management, early shock interventions and strategies. His short-term future plans include becoming an Interventional Cardiologist and a Critical Care Cardiologist. In the long-term, Dr. Rico Mesa would like to become a CCU director and enhance comprehensive cardiovascular care of the critically ill cardiovascular patient. Socially, Dr. Rico Mesa is passionate about Roman history and grilling.
