Jill A. Kanaley PhD

Professor, Nutrition and Exercise Physiology, University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri

Jill Kanaley, PhD, is Professor in the Department of Nutrition & Exercise Physiology at the University of Missouri. She is also the Director of Graduate Studies for NEP.

Dr. Kanaley focuses her research on how lifestyle changes (sleep, diet and exercise) affect metabolism and more specifically glycemic control. Recently, she has been examining nocturnal glycemic control, and how temporal optimization of exercise may enhance glycemic control, which may be particularly important in individuals with T2D. Additionally, she is interested in how sleep restriction impact insulin resistance and the mechanism causing this. Her research has included using both stable and radioactive isotopes, mass spectrometry, hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamps, muscle and adipose tissue biopsies, exercise training studies, in individuals with obesity and with/without type 2 diabetes.

Dr. Kanaley is a member of the National Academy of Kinesiologist and has received a Citation Award from the American College of Sports Medicine for her contributions to exercise science.
