Emeritus Professor of Pediatrics, Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology at Weill Cornell Medicine, New York, New YorkDr James Bussel is Emeritus Professor of Pediatrics, Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City. He graduated cum laude from Yale University, attended Medical school at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, did his residency in Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, and a fellowship in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology at Weill Cornell and Memorial Sloan Kettering. Since 1981 he has been an attending at New York Presbyterian Hospital and a professor at Weill Cornell Medicine. His clinical and clinical research interests have been largely in Immune ThrombocytoPenia (ITP) and Fetal and Neonatal Alloimmune Thrombocytopenia (FNAIT). He has published over 400 manuscripts predominantly in these areas. Six are first or second authored in the New England Journal of Medicine. In 2012 with Dr Richard Berkowitz he shared the King Faisal International Prize for Medicine (the so-called Arab Nobel Prize) for their work in non-invasive management of FNAIT. Dr Bussel has participated in the first ASH ITP guideline development and in the Consensus manuscript. He has been a reviewer for multiple journals, an ad hoc reviewer for the NIH, and an abstract reviewer for ASH and EHA. His wife’s family is from England.
