James Boynton DDS, MS
Clinical Professor, Pediatric Dentistry Division Head and Residency Program Director in the Department of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MIDr. James R. Boynton is Clinical Professor, Pediatric Dentistry Division Head and Residency Program Director in the Department of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Michigan. Dr. Boynton received his dental degree and specialty training at the University of Michigan, has served on the faculty since 2005, and head of the Division of Pediatric Dentistry since 2008. Dr. Boynton is a board certified pediatric dentist with an active private practice. He directs five formal courses and has given multiple presentations to local, national, and international audiences advocating for children’s oral health.
Dr. Boynton's research interests include pulp therapy for children and adolescents and education in pediatric dentistry. He has co-authored more than 30 manuscripts and book chapters and is Project Director on a HRSA-funded project to improve dental student clinical education in the care of very young children. He has served nationally in the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and as a consultant to State agencies and private law.
