Frank J. Snoek PhD
Professor Emeritus of Medical Psychology, Amsterdam University Medical Center, Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, The NetherlandsFrank J. Snoek is professor of Medical Psychology at the Amsterdam UMC, Vrije Universiteit, in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, with a specialization in psychosocial aspects of diabetes. He founded a specialized clinical service for people with diabetes and mental health problems and developed (online) psychological interventions for diabetes self-management, hypoglycemia unawareness, diabetes distress and depression. Most recently he created a web-based self-help app for adults with type 1 diabetes to strengthen their mental health.
He is the founder of the EASD study group Psychosocial Aspects of Diabetes (PSAD) that he chaired for many years. He has contributed to several national and internal guidelines. Prof Snoek has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals (294 articles in PubMed), wrote multiple book chapters and co-edited the handbooks Psychology in Diabetes Care (2000,2005), and Principles and Concepts of Behavioral Medicine (2018). He is currently Specialty Chief Editor of Frontiers in Clinical Diabetes and Healthcare.
Prof. Snoek received several prestigious awards, including the Richard R. Rubin Award from the American Diabetes Association (ADA) for his contributions to behavioral research in diabetes. in 2020 he was decorated by HM the King of the Netherlands as Knight in the Order of the Dutch Lion for his lifetime contributions to medical psychology and diabetes care.
