Federico M. Asch, MD, FACC, FASE, is the Director of the Cardiovascular Core Labs and Cardiac Imaging Research at MedStar Health Research Institute and MedStar Heart and Vascular Institute, Associate Professor of Medicine at Georgetown University in Washington DC. A native of Argentina, he obtained his medical degree at Universidad de Buenos Aires and his Cardiology training at Instituto Cardiovascular de Buenos Aires and at Georgetown University and MedStar Washington Hospital Center in DC. Dr. Asch is an active leader in multiple professional Societies (ASE, ACC, AHA). Dr. Asch is the imaging lead investigator for multiple clinical trials sponsored by industry, NHLBI, AHA and ASE with a main focus on structural heart disease, cardiomyopathies and novel Artificial Intelligence-related technologies. Among other trials, Dr. Asch is Principal Investigator for WASE Normal Values Study, a multinational initiative of the ASE to determine similarities and differences in cardiac size and function among individuals from multiple races and nationalities; and WASE COVID, aiming to understand heart-related COVID disease.

Dr. Asch is a frequent invited speaker at national and international meetings. His areas of interest are structural heart disease, cardiomyopathies, myocardial viability, pathologies of the aorta and particularly the role of echo and other imaging modalities in clinical trials. Dr. Asch has published his research in peer-reviewed journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Circulation, JACC, JAMA, JASE and the American Heart Journal.
