Emanuel Della-Torre MD, PhD

Assistant Professor of Rheumatology, Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele, School of Medicine, San Raffaele Hospital, Milan, Italy

Dr. Emanuel Della-Torre is an Assistant Professor of Rheumatology at Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele in Milan (Italy) and serves as assistant Rheumatologist and Immunologist at the Unit of Immunology, Rheumatology, Allergy and Rare Disease of San Raffaele Hospital in Milan (Italy).

During his residency in clinical immunology, Dr. Della-Torre started working on IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) and joined the nascent community of international physicians interested in this rare emerging condition. During his PhD, Dr. Della-Torre exploited IgG4-RD as tool for investigating pro-fibrotic properties of B and T lymphocytes. He then spent a three-year post-doc at the Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT, and Harvard in Boston (MA) further addressing the anti-fibrotic properties of B-cell depleting agents. In the last 10 years Dr. Della-Torre contributed to the definition of international consensus documents on the diagnosis, classification and treatment of IgG4-RD.

His current activity combines epidemiological and clinical research on IgG4-RD with mechanistic studies to improve our overall understanding of this rare condition. His research is supported by a number of Italian and European funding agencies including the Foundation for Research in Rheumatology (FOREUM) and the Fondazione Italiana per la Ricerca sull’Artrite (FIRA). He also currently serves on the IgG4-RD Committee of the European Reference Network (ERN) for Rare Connective Tissue Disorders (ReCONNET) supported by the European Commission.

Dr. Della-Torre received his medical degree from Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele in Milan (Italy) and completed his residency training at San Raffaele Hospital in the Department of Internal Medicine.
