E. Dwayne Karateew DDS
Diplomate, American Board of Periodontology and Implant Surgery; Program Director, Advanced Education in Periodontology, University of Illinois Chicago College of Dentistry, Chicago, IllinoisDr. Karateew completed dental school at Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery (now the College of Dental Medicine) in New York City. This was followed by certificates in both Periodontics and Fixed Prosthodontics from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He has practiced for 20 years in his hometown of Vancouver, Canada maintaining a practice which focused on Periodontics, Prosthodontics and Implant centered dentistry. Currently, he is a Clinical Associate Professor and the Program Director of the Advanced Education in Periodontology (PG Residency) at UIC College of Dentistry in Chicago Illinois, where he is involved in both the education of the postgraduate Periodontology residents as well as with clinical research. Dr. Karateew has earned the status of a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and Implant Surgery.
Dr. Karateew has made clinically relevant presentations in over 20 countries. Additionally, Dr Karateew has written many clinical articles, served as the Medical Editor for a reference book on 3-D imaging for dental applications (Specialty Imaging: Dental Implants, Tamimi [Amirsys Publishing]) as well as recently publishing his own reference book on implant dentistry (Implant Aesthetics, Springer Publishing [Berlin]) and authoring or co-authoring a chapters on Crown Lengthening (Advances in Periodontal Surgery, Nares ed., Springer Publishing [Berlin]) and Role of CBCT and its diagnostics in the treatment of Interdisciplinary Dentofacial Therapy (Surgically Facilitated Orthodontic Therapy - An Interdisciplinary Approach, Mandelaris, G and Vence, B. eds., Springer Publishing [Berlin]). Recently, Dr. Karateew was elected as a Fellow of the Academy of Osseointegration and served as the Scientific Chair for the 2021 annual meeting of the AO.
