Associate Professor, Department of Surgery, Harvard Medical School; Surgical Director for Liver Transplantation, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, MassachusettsDr. David Lee currently serves as an associate professor and surgical director for liver transplantation at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, in Boston, Massachusetts. Prior to joining BIDMC, Dr. Lee was an associate professor and surgical director for liver transplantation at Loyola University Medical Center, in Maywood, Illinois. His formative years were spent at the Mayo Clinic in Florida from 2013-2019, where he was an assistant professor and surgical consultant. During his time at Mayo Clinic, he developed a research interest in the management of primary liver cancers and the maximal utilization of marginal liver grafts in liver transplantation.
He began his medical school training at the University of Michigan Medical School and was a surgical resident at Rush University Medical Center/Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, from 2003-2010. During his surgical residency, he completed a 2-year American Society of Transplant Surgeons sponsored research fellowship with Anita Chong, PhD at the University of Chicago studying islet cell transplantation. His abdominal transplant fellowship was completed at the University of Michigan Medical Center. Prior to joining Loyola University and the Mayo Clinic, he served as an assistant professor of surgery at the Hume-Lee Transplant center in Richmond, Virginia, at Virginia Commonwealth University.
