Professor, Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology, University of Washington School of Medicine, Seattle, WashingtonDr. Garcia completed internal medicine residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and hematology fellowship at the University of Washington. He has been Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology at the University of Washington since 2013.
Dr. Garcia has been either an investigator or steering committee member for numerous clinical trials related to the prevention and treatment of thromboembolic disease, and he is a past-President of the Anticoagulation Forum. Dr. Garcia has previously chaired the American Society of Hematology’s Scientific Committee on Thrombosis and Vascular Biology and is a Co-Editor of the 4th edition of the textbook, Consultative Thrombosis and Hemostasis. Dr. Garcia has authored or co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications in journals such as Blood, Archives of Internal Medicine, New England Journal of Medicine, the British Journal of Hematology, Stroke, and Circulation. Dr. Garcia has been very involved with the development of several different clinical practice Guidelines on Anti-thrombotic Therapy and served as Special Section Editor for the journal Blood from 2014 through 2017.
