Associate Professor, Division of Endocrinology, Department of Medicine, Columbia University Irving Medical Center, New York, New YorkBlandine Laferrère, MD, PhD is Professor of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology at the Columbia University Irving medical Center, and Director of the Translational Biomarker Analytical Core of the Columbia University Diabetes Research Center. Her scientific interest is the link between obesity, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular risk, and the effect of weight loss intervention. Specifically, her laboratory identified endocrine mechanisms of appetite regulation and type 2 diabetes resolution in various weight loss models, including bariatric surgery, with a focus on the role of the incretin GLP-1. Dr.Laferrère is the Columbia site PI of two landmark multicentric trials testing the effect of lifestyle intervention on cardiovascular outcomes in individuals with, or at risk of, type 2 diabetes: The Look AHEAD and the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) trials. She currently studies the effect of time restricted eating and sleep variability on energy balance and glucose metabolism in individuals with prediabetes. Dr. Laferrère is a reviewer for many obesity and diabetes journals, and for NIH and many European grants agencies. She has over 120 peer reviewed publications and book chapters.
