Ashwin N. Ananthakrishnan MD
Associate Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School; Medical Co-Director, MGH Crohn’s and Colitis Center, Boston, MassachusettsAshwin N. Ananthakrishnan completed his medical degree at the Jawaharlal Institute of Post-Graduate Medical Education and Research in India, graduating at the top of his class. In 2004, he followed up his MD with an MPH from the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health again graduating at the top of his class and was selected to the Delta Omega public health honorary society. He subsequently completed his internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin before joining the Gastroenterology Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital in July 2010. He is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and is medical co-director at the MGH Crohn’s and Colitis center. He has received research support from the AGA, ACG, and National Institutes of Health. He has over 100 original publications in leading academic journals including Gastroenterology, Gut, and the Annals of Internal Medicine. His research focuses on the epidemiology and outcomes of inflammatory bowel diseases including the role of genetics and the environment in disease pathogenesis and natural history. He is also on the editorial board for Gastroenterology, Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and Inflammatory Bowel Diseases as well as being an active member of the AGA, ACG, and CCFA.
