Afsaneh Shirani MD, MSCI
Assistant Professor, Division of Multiple Sclerosis, Department of Neurological Sciences, University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, NebraskaDr. Afsaneh Shirani is an assistant professor of neurology and a physician-scientist at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. She earned her MD from Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Iran. Subsequently, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the pharmacoepidemiology of multiple sclerosis at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, and a neurology residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. In 2017, she began a fellowship in MS and neuroimmunology at Washington University in St. Louis, where she also obtained a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation. Dr. Shirani’s research focuses on interventional neuroepidemiology and pharmacoepidemiology in MS. She has a particular interest in utilizing real-world data to enhance patient outcomes and is dedicated to exploring innovative approaches in disease management and neuroprotection for MS. She has authored over 45 peer-reviewed journal articles and several book chapters in the field of MS and has received awards from the MS Society of Canada, the US National MS Society, the Multiple Sclerosis International Federation, and the American Academy of Neurology, among others. Dr. Shirani uses her resources to advocate for people with MS, especially those from underserved and underrepresented populations. Additionally, she is committed to addressing health disparities and promoting equitable care for all patients.
