Abhishek Satishchandran MD, PhD
Chief Fellow, Division of Gastroenterology, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MichiganAbhishek Satishchandran, MD, PhD, is the Gastroenterology Chief Fellow in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at University of Michigan. He received his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from University of the Sciences in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. He completed his Medical Degree (MD) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, MA.
During his thesis work, he discovered novel pathways and treatments in the pathogenesis of alcoholic liver disease. Following his medical school training, he went on to complete his residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. In 2020, also at the University of Michigan, he began his physician-scientist fellowship in Gastroenterology. As a T-32 fellow, he has pursued his research interests in the mechanism and therapy of biliary strictures and biliary tract fibrosis. He was named chief clinical fellow during his final year of fellowship.
He will be staying at the University of Michigan as an Advanced/Therapeutic Endoscopy Fellow in 2023. His goals are to develop therapeutic strategies for biliary fibrosis combining endoscopic management with medical therapies. He also has interests in medical innovation, device development, and EUS/ERCP.
